Rhon Hooper

​Rhon Hooper was born in the town of Dalton, GA. A town nestled at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is commonly known as Peacock Alley or The Carpet Capital of the World. Her father was a long-haul truck driver that took her across the United States at an early age. Her mother worked in tufting in the carpet mills of Dalton until she retired. Being the only girl of three children and by far the youngest, Rhon had plenty of time alone to use her imagination. Unable to wait until she started school, she taught herself to read and write.

 
Her parents separated by the time she was five years old. Her mother remarried and the family moved temporarily to another city. It wasn’t long before they decided to purchase a home in Dalton again. Not long after their move back, just two short months before Rhon’s eighth birthday, her father took his own life. It was a crushing blow. She lost interest in her education but continued to lose herself in books. She found that fiction rescued her mind from reality and helped to keep her going in a way nothing else could. She and her mother moved out of Dalton but stayed in Whitfield County when Rhon was twelve.
